Wig Care
Full lace and lace top wigs are delicate, so please be extra careful when handling and storing.
Wash.
Follow our step-by-step guide to our preferred washing method.
1. Gently brush your wig, making sure the hair is smooth and knot-free.
2. Fill your sink halfway with lukewarm (not hot) water. Mix a small amount of shampoo with running water and agitate the water with your hand to create a lather.
3. Hold your wig by placing your hand inside the cap, dip the wig into the water and gently move the wig through the water, using your free hand to run the comb through the lengths of the hair.
Don't rub the lace or crown hair where the knots are, as these areas are more delicate when wet.
If there is a lot of product build-up, you may need to repeat the washing process more than once.
4. Once the wig has been shampooed, empty the sink and rinse the hair thoroughly with fresh water.
5. Place the wig on a towel and massage the conditioner into the lengths of the hair.
Always keep conditioner away from roots and weft threads, as conditioner loosens handmade knots, as well as hair sewn into weft threads. This will lead to hair loss.
6. Leave conditioner on hair for a few minutes or according to product instructions, then rinse thoroughly with cool water.
7. After wringing out the wig, wrap it in a towel for a few minutes. Now it's time to use a wide-tooth comb to very gently comb through the lengths, starting at the ends and working your way up.
Be very careful at this stage, as hair is much more delicate when wet.
8. Add your favorite hair oil or leave-in treatment (avoiding hand knots and weft tracks) and place on a wig stand for air-drying.
We recommend using a hairdryer on a cool setting to dry the inside of the wig cap.
This will help keep the handmade knots tight over time.
We recommend letting the hair air-dry completely before styling.
Always use a good quality heat protection product before using styling tools.
Brush.
Always use a looped bristle wig brush as it won’t tear at the hair.
Start at the bottom of the wig or topper and slowly move up. Do not start brushing at the crown as this will make the knots worse and can damage the hair.
Style.
When styling with hot tools, use the lowest temperature and also use a heat protection product. Avoid heat styling too often, as this can dry out wig hair.
When using hair products such as hairspray or oil, be sure to use them in small quantities. Be sure to use alcohol-free products, as products containing alcohol can dry out the hair. Avoid spraying hairspray directly onto lace.
Any lace top wig will have some return hairs which are shorter hairs throughout the crown. This is totally normal and necessary. When the hairs are tied and knotted into the lace top, there is a return that is left. For example is a wig is 20” the hairs used in the top will be 23-26” to allow for the knot and return.
We recommend using a low-temperature hairdryer to smooth out return hair.
