Wig Care Guide
Caring for Your Bijoux Wig
Your Bijoux wig is crafted from the highest quality human hair and can be styled, washed, and worn just like natural hair. With the right care, your piece will maintain its colour, softness, and movement for years to come.
Care
Washing
Washing with intention is one of the most important things you can do to extend the life of your Bijoux.
Prep
After gently brushing your wig with a wide-tooth comb, place it on your mannequin head. Secure it using T-pins, pinning carefully through the ear tab material only — never through the lace or netting.
The mannequin head we suggest has a PVC or silicone exterior with a foam interior. This construction makes it ideal for washing wigs (it can get wet without damage) and equally well-suited as a styling head.
Shampoo
Thoroughly wet the hair with cool to lukewarm water using a tub, sink, or handheld faucet. Apply a small amount of shampoo and work it gently through the mid-lengths and ends. Because our wigs feature hand-painted roots, avoid concentrating shampoo at the root area — instead, softly draw the suds upward to cleanse without over-saturating the colour.
Rinse
Rinse thoroughly until the water runs completely clear.
Condition
Apply a small amount of salon-grade conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends only. Avoid the roots and crown of the wig, as conditioner at the knots can cause shedding. Leave it on for a few minutes to absorb before rinsing completely.
Every few washes, swap your regular conditioner for a deep conditioning treatment.
Washing Tips
Wash every 20–30 wears
Overwashing can shorten your wig's lifespan and will also require more frequent colour maintenance.
Be gentle with the knots
Hand-tied single knots are delicate. Avoid rubbing or agitating the base while washing. Using a mannequin head significantly reduces this risk — it keeps the hair from inverting into the cap under water pressure.
Never brush when wet
Always detangle with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb after washing, working upward from the ends — never with a brush. Hair is most vulnerable when wet.
Dry the wig cap
After combing through the wet hair, use a blow dryer on low to medium heat to dry the inside of the cap, focusing on the lace where the knots are hand-tied. Wet knots expand and loosen over time — drying them promptly keeps them tight and secure.
Care
Styling
Your Bijoux can be curled, straightened, and styled just like natural hair — with a few guidelines to protect the integrity of the hair and colour.
- No exceptions: always apply heat protectant before using any heat tools.
- Style with the lowest heat setting possible. 300–330°F is ideal — we don't recommend going higher than 330°F.
- Avoid products containing drying alcohols or heavy silicones, which cause buildup and dryness over time.
Care
Storage
How you store your Bijoux between wears matters.
- Keep your wig on a wig stand or mannequin head when not in use to preserve its shape.
- Store away from direct sunlight to protect the colour.
- For longer-term storage, return the wig to its box with tissue tucked inside the cap.
Care
Customization
If you'd like to customize or recolour your Bijoux, we strongly recommend working with a professional stylist experienced in alternative hair.
